For my first post here, I thought I’d talk about dating. Not because I know a lot about it; I don’t. That<\/strong>‘s actually why I want to talk about it. Every single time I read or hear dating advice from someone who claims to be knowledgeable about it, it’s always, without fail, complete and utter crap. Yeah, fuck you, Marc Boilard.<\/p>\n

Not that what I’m about to write should be taken as advice, but you’ll figure that out soon enough.<\/p>\n

Basically, you shouldn’t get any advice. At most, I could say to try and avoid doing what I did, since most of my stories end in some measure of failure, but even then I had fun, so I can’t say you should avoid making the same mistakes. Actually, I should stop talking about mistakes, because the point I’m so painfully trying to get to is that they’re experiences, not mistakes. And you should make those mistakes. Which they are not.<\/p>\n

You get the point.<\/p>\n

If people didn’t make mistakes, I wouldn’t be able to tell the story of the girl who came onto me by giving me a gift certificate to the photo place where she worked, which was 2 towns over, without giving me her name, phone number, or a chance to ask for any other information (…never did manage to find her). If people didn’t make mistakes, I wouldn’t have this awesome story of the one time I went to the sleaziest club in the suburbs of Montreal, got offered coke twice by a girl who got into 2 separate arguments with random people on the terrace about the status of the French language in Quebec, went back to her place where she told me she had a boyfriend but didn’t, made out with her while she told me we wouldn’t have sex, and escaped at 5 in the morning when I had to move out of my apartment at 10 (unrelated). If people didn’t make mistakes, I wouldn’t be able to tell the story of Ariel, the girl who introduced herself while basically running away from me.<\/p>\n

Although this last one might have been because I slammed a door in her face (inadvertently). Not sure.<\/p>\n

Bottom line is, go out there, make mistakes (that are not mistakes), tell people about it and have a laugh. Man, that almost sounded like advice… Oh, and also, don’t date coworkers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
